Merced Police Officer involved shooting, man flown to Modesto hospital

On July 20th, 2019, at approximately 12:20 a.m., a Merced Police Gang unit officer radioed to dispatch that he had fired shots.

Upon further investigation, it was determined at least one Merced police gang officer shot and injured a suspect who had ran from a traffic stop.

The shooting occurred after officers had pulled over a car at the intersections of East Alexander Avenue and Marie Court.

Officers on the scene said, a few suspects jumped out of the car and ran away.

According to the officer, one of the suspects who was running was armed with a gun and the officer shot several rounds.

The suspect who was shot was Med-flighted to a Stanislaus County hospital, the other suspects got away.

Police arrested four people in the area after searching several homes in the area. It’s unknown if any of the arrested were related to this case.

The officer involved in the shooting was not injured, the officer was placed on administrative paid leave.

The shooting is under investigation by the Merced County Sheriffs office and the Merced Police Department.

    I think that it is totally wrong for an officer to shoot someone just because they run. They say the guy had a gun in his hand but how could the officer be completely sure of it being a gun if the guy was running? Merced police complain about so much violence but yet they aren’t showing that they are any different because when they shoot people they are pretty much saying it’s ok to do that.#putdownyourguns.
