Merced Police investigate attempted murder-suicide

Merced police rescued a woman from a home after her significant other shot her according to 9-1-1 reports provided to Merced GW News.

Merced Police dispatch received a disturbing call on November 6th, 2020, at around 10:22 p.m., from a man stating “I just shot the love of my life and now I’m gonna shoot myself, I’m sorry” before abruptly hanging up.

Dispatch attempted to call back the reporting party, but the calls went to voicemail.

Several patrol officers and Riggs ambulance responded to a home at 250 East Main Street. Upon arrival, Officers called out from their vehicle’s PA system for all occupants of the home to come out and that’s when they noticed a female trying to crawl to the front door.

Officers then approached the doorway with caution and secured the scene while attempting to render aid to the wounded woman.

Officers also noticed upon entry a Hispanic male with a gunshot wound and radioed that he may be deceased.

Reports also show a second 9-1-1 call from the brother of the female victim stating he received a video of her sister bleeding and didn’t know what had happened.

CPS was called to the scene, records show they had a 2-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy, CPS responded but later released the juveniles to the family of the female victim.

The suspect was later identified as 30-year-old Steven John Martinez of Merced. Steven owned a local printing business,  it’s unknown at this time what led to the shooting.

The female victim was identified as Denise Nuno, she was flown to a hospital and her condition remains unknown.
