A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Vehicle in Merced County Wednesday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers responded to the area of southbound State Route 165, just north of State Route 140 at around 11:30 after receiving a call regarding a collision between a sedan and a pedestrian.
When officers arrived, they located the pedestrian with severe injuries deceased.
Authorities say the adult male from Stevinson California was crossing the southbound lane of SR-165, north of SR-140 when 27-year-old Lamar Abedi was driving a 2016 Mercedes E350, traveling at an approximate speed of 50 mph in the same southbound lane.
Tragically, due to the combination of time of day, minimal lighting and the pedestrian wearing dark clothing, Abedi was unable to observe the pedestrian in time to prevent the collision.
Abedi, was not injured and remained at the scene. Abedi has been fully cooperative with the ongoing investigation.
The Merced California Highway Patrol continues to investigate this tragic incident.
