A pedestrian was hit and killed by a big rig Friday afternoon in Los Banos.
The crash happened at around 2:22 p.m., on Volta Road just North of Ramos Road, the Los Banos California Highway Patrol told Merced Golden Wire News.
According to CHP, the female pedestrian ran into the road and was struck by a 2019 International big rig traveling Southbound on Volta Road.
The driver, 28-year-old Fidel Alvarez stopped after the collision. Authorities say the big rig appeared to be hauling two empty trailers from a tomato company.
Investigators are reviewing the dashcam video. According to witnesses, the woman appeared to be chasing after her dog when she was struck.
The Merced County Coroner’s Office will identify the pedestrian after the victim’s next of kin is notified.
