Merced County Fire and City Fire responded to a grass fire that began near Pick-n-Pull Friday afternoon just after 5:00 on East Childs Avenue.

The fire started behind the wrecking yards and grew into a massive fire, threatening homes, industrial, and agricultural properties.

Merced fire departments including Atwater Fire Department, Merced County Fire, and Cal Fire responded to the scene to combat the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
