The Merced California Highway Patrol is investigating a collision sent a Merced man to a Modesto hospital.

CHP officers responded to a single-vehicle collision on South State Route 59 just South of  Lincoln Boulevard at around 4:47 a.m., Monday.

CHP says the driver 35-year-old Ricardo Gonzales of Merced was driving a 1998 Honda Civic South on 59 at approximately 55 mph, for unknown reasons, Gonzales veered to the left shoulder of the roadway causing the vehicle to rollover twice.

The man was flown with major injuries to Doctors Medical in Modesto, CHP said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor.
