Merced police officers are investigating after a man was hit and killed by a train.

Officers responded to the 1500 block of V street at around 7:05 p.m., for reports of a man struck by a train.

When officers arrived, they located the body of a 50-year-old man near the railroad crossing.

The man appeared to be pushing a stroller used to carry items across the tracks when a westbound train struck the individual.

The man died at the scene and his name is being withheld pending notification of the family the Merced Police Department said.
