A young girl died while swimming at a Merced County river with the family on Saturday afternoon.

Authorities say the family was swimming at Hagaman Park on River Road near Hilmar when the child went underwater, she was transported to a local hospital where she later died.

The Merced County Coroner’s Office identified her as 7-year-old Jocelyn Ponce from Winton.
