The Merced County Sheriff’s Office is reporting, the Water Rescue and Recovery Team is currently at Santa Fe Avenue and the Merced River Area in regards to a possible drowning.

The Department stated on a recent post, arriving deputies were advised by a friend of the subject who had disappeared, the man had walked his horse into the water at a depth that caused the horse to start swimming.

At this time it’s unclear if he either jumped or fell off of his horse, but either way, he went under the water and had not been seen since.

The Merced County Sheriff’s Office Water Rescue and Recovery Team are searching the river in the last known location and areas downstream.

No further information is currently available the department stated.
