44-year-old man, dog, killed after being struck by a vehicle, police say

Officers from the Merced Police Department are investigating after a dog and a pedestrian were both hit and killed by a vehicle.

Officers responded to the area of East Yosemite Parkway and Almond Avenue at around 5:42 Friday night, according to Lieutenant Emily Foster from the Merced Police Department.

Authorities say, a 44-year-old man and his dog were struck by a car when both were crossing Northbound across Yosemite Parkway at Almond Avenue by a Silver Ford Focus driven by a 20-year-old woman.

Police say, the man and the dog both died at the scene.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor.
