Family mourns man hit and killed by vehicle in Merced Friday afternoon

Officers from the Merced Police Department responded to reports of a collision Friday afternoon involving a vehicle that hit a man, and his dog.

Officers responded to the area of East Yosemite Parkway and Almond Avenue at around 5:42 Friday afternoon, Lieutenant Emily Foster from the Merced Police Department said.

A 44-year-old man and his dog were struck by a Silver Ford Focus driven by a 20-year-old woman when both were crossing Northbound across Yosemite Parkway at Almond Avenue.

Police say the man and the dog both died at the scene.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor.

The family says 44-year-old Ramon Fernando Tristan was a father of six children, biological and non, he cared and loved all the same, the six children range from ages 12 to 21.

Tristan enjoyed working, he was already making plans on what to get his kids for Christmas.

Tristan was a Raiders and LA Dodgers fan, he loved walking his dog Simba.
