Woman killed after vehicle hits power pole and overturns in Merced County

A woman was killed Thursday morning after hitting a power pole near Dos Palos.

California Highway Patrol officers responded to the area of Turner Island Road, North of Henry Miller Road at around 9:30 for reports of an overturned vehicle.

When officers arrived, they located a 2005 Honda Sedan on it’s roof with active powerlines on it.

During the investigation, it was determined a 62-year-old woman was traveling northbound on Turner Island Road, north of Henry Miller Road at an unknown speed when she lost control of the vehicle and struck a power pole, the vehicle then overturned and came to rest on its roof with power lines on it.

PG&E responded to the scene to turn off the power and made the power lines safe for emergency personnel.

The female driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene, CHP public information officer Stiers said in a press release.

According to CHP, alcohol or drugs has not been determined to be a factor.
