Motorcyclist killed by SUV in Merced Thursday afternoon

A motorcyclist was killed Thursday afternoon in Merced after being involved in a collision with an SUV.

At approximately 6:44 p.m., the Merced area California Highway Patrol responded to the 2000 block of Ashby Road for reports of a vehicle vs a Motorcycle.

Officers arrived and located a motorcycle rider along with volunteer firefighters providing CPR to the rider.

According to California Highway Patrol Seargent Shane McConnell, the rider, a man in his early 50’s succumbed at the scene.

No other injuries were reported, no names of either vehicles were immediately available.

The collision remains under investigation, at this time it’s unknown if the motorcyclist was under the influence of alcohol.

    I see the officer said it was unknown if the motorcyclist was under the influence but didn’t even say anything about the driver of the other vehicle. We’re they “tested” also for being under the influence? Why automatically assume just the motorcyclist might be under the influence.
