Motorcycle driver killed by hit and run driver in Merced

A 50-year-old man was killed Friday evening according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers responded to the area of Belcher Avenue and Beachwood Drive for a report of a collision at around 7:03 p.m., CHP reported.

CHP said a Merced man was driving a motorcycle eastbound on Belcher Avenue, approaching the intersection of Beachwood Drive when he was struck by a dark green sedan described to be a late 90’s or early 00’s model.

The suspect vehicle was traveling westbound on Belcher Avenue approaching the intersection of Beachwood Drive when the driver made a left turn into the path of the motorcycle.

The driver fled the scene in the vehicle southbound on Beachwood Avenue.

Lifesaving efforts were performed at the scene, unfortunately the 50-year-old motorcycle rider died at the scene.

CHP Investigators are requesting assistance from the public in gathering the details surrounding this incident.
