Merced woman shot after confronting suspects breaking into her car

Merced Police Officers were dispatched to the 100 Block of East Main Street for a shooting that occurred at approximately 5:27 a.m. today.

When officers arrived in the area, they located a victim who had had a gunshot wound to her upper torso.

Riggs Paramedics arrived at the scene to provide medical assistance to the victim.

The victim was transported to a regional hospital in Stanislaus County to receive medical treatment.

Police determined that the suspect(s) involved in this incident had departed the area before their arrival at the scene.

Police Detectives are conducting the investigation of this aggravated assault.

The victim reported that before the shooting, she looked outside her residence and saw an unidentified person breaking the window of her vehicle.

The victim went outside her residence and confronted the suspect, trying to stop the suspect from breaking into her vehicle. It was at that time that another suspect, who was in the yard of the residence, shot the victim. Both suspects quickly left the area in an unknown direction.

Location: 134 E. Main Street (Target Residence) – Merced

Victims: No one injured

Suspect(s): Unidentified

Crime: Felony – Shooting at an Inhabited Dwelling

Merced Police Department Communications Center received a second call of shots fired in the vicinity of 134 East Main Street at around 9:15 a.m.

Police Officers responded to the area of the 100 block of East Main Street to investigate the shots fired call.

The investigating officers determined that the suspect(s) had driven by 134 East Main Street and fired several bullets at the vehicle that was parked in the driveway.

The bullets struck the vehicle and some of the bullets fired by the suspect(s) also struck a residence in the vicinity.

No one was inside the residence or inside the vehicle when the shooting occurred. No one was injured in this second incident.

Merced Police Department Detectives are looking at both shooting incidents that occurred at 134 E. Main Street to determine how they are related.

Police Investigators are asking for the public to report any suspicious persons or vehicles that may be connected with both shootings at 134 E. Main Street.
