A Merced man was arrested after he intentionally ran over two people with a vehicle in Modesto.
Modesto police officers responded to an alley behind the A&M Market on Maze Boulevard shortly after midnight Wednesday morning for reports of two individuals who had been struck by a vehicle.
Upon arrival, they located a 30-year-old male with moderate injuries and a 61-year-old female unresponsive next to their tent.
The officer’s provided CPR to the female until medical personnel arrived. Both victims were transported to a local hospital, unfortunately, the woman died.
The man is expected to survive his injuries.
Authorities say they were able to determine the responsible intentionally ran over the victims while they were in their tent after an altercation between the male victim and the responsible.
Police say the responsible drove away after he struck them, the motive and details of the altercation are still under investigation.
Officers were able to obtain a vehicle description and a short time later a Modesto Police Cadet located the responsible and his vehicle nearby.
Officers responded and were able to arrest without incident 39-year-old Cruz Diaz from Merced, he was booked into the Stanislaus Country Jail on homicide charges.
