On January 8th, 2019, just before 1:00 P.M.,the Atwater City Fire Department and Merced County Fire Department responded to an unknown chemical vapor coming from a trailer in the 100 block of Airpark Road in Atwater at the Kingsview Work Experience Center.

Upon arrival, units determined that there were no injuries and proceeded to evacuate and isolate the area.

The Merced County Environmental Health was contacted to respond to the area, members from Merced and Madera Counties Hazardous Materials Teams made entry and were able to determine that the unknown vapor was from a strong acid, likely muriatic acid from the look of the unmarked container.

Property management stated that they were removing stored chemicals to have them properly disposed of when one of the containers inadvertently broke open spilling the contents in the rear of a trailer.

PARC Environmental responded to clean up and secure the released chemicals to be properly transported. Fire Department crews cleared the area at approximately 7:00 P.M.
