On December 4th, 2019, at approximately 9:44 a.m., the California Highway Patrol responded to a traffic collision in the area of Bert Crane Road near the southbound SR-99 off-ramp.
Upon further investigation, officers determined a 2006 4-door gray Acura had traveled off the roadway and crashed into an empty canal.
While contacting the female driver, the investigating officer could smell the odor of alcohol. After completing a DUI evaluation, 33-year-old Leanne Edwards out of Atwater was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.
No visible injuries were reported in the single-vehicle collision, Edwards was taken to a local hospital for evaluation before being booked into the Merced County jail.
CHP says, a combination of wet roads and driving while intoxicated the outcome could have been much worse, if you plan to drink, have a plan not to drive.
