Man wanted for shooting Merced Off-duty deputy outside a bar, this is what happened

The Turlock Police Department has identified a suspect who allegedly shot an off-duty Merced County Sheriff’s Deputy.

On August 18th, 2019, at approximately 2:30 a.m., TPD responded to the 100 block of South First Street just outside La Cantina Bar for a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers located a male victim that had sustained at least one gunshot wound. Officers provided medical aid to the victim until paramedics arrived and transported the victim to a local area hospital in critical condition.

Throughout the preliminary stages of the investigation, it was determined that the suspect walked out of the business establishment in the 100 block of South First Street and fired a weapon in the direction of  Christian Galvan, an off-duty Merced Sheriff Deputy who was also with three additional patrons outside.

The suspect left the scene prior to police arrival, in a grey-colored sedan or SUV.

The suspect was described as an adult Hispanic male, about 40 years of age, 5’10” to 6’00” tall, approximately 200 pounds, wearing a blue polo shirt and blue jeans.

A warrant has been issued for 42-year-old
Osbaldo Gaytan (aka Osbaldo Gaytan-Mota) for the attempted murder of Merced Sheriff Deputy Galvan.
