El Capitan High added to County COVID-19 Outbreaks, other schools remain on the list

The Merced County Health Department is reporting several Covid-19 outbreaks at several schools in Merced County including other locations.

Within the past two weeks, El Capitan High School has reported several COVID-19 cases to the Merced County Department of Public Health.

Extensive contact tracing was done to quarantine anyone who may have been in contact with a positive case, according to an email sent to staff.

The email also stated that operations at El Capitan High School will continue as usual, unless otherwise directed by the Merced County Health Department.

Outbreaks are closed and removed from the list after there are no additional confirmed cases at the facility for a two-week period.

When a facility is determined to have an outbreak, the Merced County Department of Public Health works closely with the facility regarding cleaning protocols, tracing contacts within the facility, procedures regarding notification of close contacts, increased testing, and other guidance to mitigate the spread of disease.
