Crash near McSwain school sends two with major injuries to Modesto hospitals

A collision between a white Nissan Maxima and a big rig near McSwain Union Elementary School sent two people to Modesto Hospitals Friday night.

The Nissan driver, a 31-year-old man and a 32-year-old female passenger were taken with Major injuries to Modesto Hospitals, according to CHP patrol Seargent Mafana.

Nissan Altima crashes with big rig

The crash happened at around 8:50 p.m. near the intersection of State Highway 140 and North Gurr road CHP reported.

CHP investigators determined the white Nissan Altima had been traveling Northbound on State route Highway 140 when it crossed over the yellow line and into the northbound lane, side-swiping a big rig that was headed northbound.

The big rig struck an At&t power pole with one of his overturned flatbed trailers, the driver was able to escape injuries before the truck became fully engulfed. The fire caused damage to a PG&E pole

The identity of the driver and passenger of the Nissan was not immediately available.

The roadway was closed in the area for a few hours, detours were provided.

According to CHP,  alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor. Anyone who saw the crash is urged to call 209-356-6600.
