Collision involving Merced Police officer sends 13-year-old to hospital

A collision involving a Merced Police Department female officer sent a 13-year-old girl to the hospital.

CHP officers responded to the intersection of R Street and West 11th at around 6:48 p.m. Saturday for reports of a collision involving a Merced Police officer.

Authorities say 34-year-old Salvador Farias from Merced was driving a 2016 Dodge Charger South on R Street approaching West 11th Street.

The officer was driving a Dodge Charger Police vehicle Westbound on 11th Street with emergency lights on, she assumed the vehicle was going to stop and proceeded through the intersection striking the Southbound vehicle, CHP officer Zuniga said.

A 13-year-old was taken to Mercy Medical Center for reports of pain, no other injuries were reported.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to have been a factor in this collision.

The collision remains under investigation. CHP asks anyone with camera footage in the area to call CHP at 209-356-6600.
