21-year-old Atwater man killed in roll over crash, CHP says

A 21-year-old Atwater man died in a single-vehicle roll-over accident Monday afternoon.

Officers from the Merced California Highway Patrol Office responded to the area of Livingston Cressey Road just West of Cressey at around 4:50 for reports of a collision.

Upon arrival, the officers located a 2008 Honda Civic with rollover damage.

Authorities say the vehicle was traveling Eastbound on Livingston Cressey Road when the driver approached a curve and lost control causing it to roll over several times and ejecting the driver, he died at the scene.

Speed appears to be a factor and he was not wearing a seatbelt, CHP public information officer Zuniga told Merced Golden Wire News.

According to witnesses, the vehicle was traveling at 100 MPH.

“Even tho it’s the law to wear a seatbelt, we highly encourage everyone to use it, this could have possibly ended with just injuries”, Zuniga said.

No other vehicles or passengers were involved in this collision, drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor, authorities say.

The name of the victim will not be released until the family is notified.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Merced CHP office at 209-356-6600.
