Man killed after being struck by two vehicles, Merced CHP says

A man from Atwater was killed after being struck by two vehicles early Monday morning.

Officers responded at around 2 a.m., to the area of Northbound Highway 99 North of Atwater Boulevard after receiving a call from a driver who thought he had hit an object in the roadway and immediately realized it was a pedestrian.

When officers arrived they located a 52-year-old man on the roadway with fatal injuries.

Officers spoke to the driver 24-year-old Miguel Aguilar out of Lathrop who called 911 to report the collision.

Authorities say the pedestrian had already been struck by another driver.

During the investigation, officers located a broken license plate at the scene, the plate was registered to a 2018 Toyota Camry out of Livingston.

At around 6 a.m., officers located and arrested 21-year-old Raul Jaime on hit-and-run charges, CHP public information officer told Merced Golden Wire News.

The California Highway Patrol says they are working to determine what led to the crash, alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor.
