Merced Police officers are investigating a shooting that left a juvenile dead and an elderly female in the hospital Sunday night in south Merced.

Officers responded to the 400 block of 5th Street for reports of a shooting at around 7:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers blocked the area and located the victims that were struck by gunfire.

Several homes and vehicles were struck by gunfire during the shooting. Some neighbors reported hearing about 20 shots.

A juvenile under the age of 18 was pronounced deceased and a elderly female remains at a local hospital in stable condition, Merced Police Seargent Solis told Merced GW News.

No description of the suspect/s was immediately available.
