Several Merced School buses vandalised, this is what they destroyed

MUHSD PRESS RELEASE

Merced Union High School District (MUHSD) is seeking the public’s assistance in light of a recent uptick in vandalism.

Merced Union High School District (MUHSD) is seeking the public’s assistance in light of a recent uptick in vandalism.

For the third time this summer, MUHSD’s transportation yard, which is on the backside of Merced High School in central Merced, was struck leaving the district with costly repairs and clean-up that is estimated to reach $20,000.

Over the weekend, several school buses sustained broken windows and mirrors as well as busted out headlights and tail lights.

Bus doors and seats also received damage and fire extinguishers were discharged both inside and outside of the buses.

First aid kit items were also ripped open and strewn about during this latest occurrence

The incidents have been reported to the Merced Police Department, but the escalating costs and downtime for buses is a concern with the new school year beginning in a few weeks.

“Thankfully it’s summer and there’s not a lot going on right now,” said MUHSD Director of Transportation Michelle Williams. “However, the vandals are getting more and more destructive each time, and if this continues into the school year, many students will be impacted.”

Anyone with information regarding the vandalism is urged to call the Merced Police Department at 209-385-6905.
