On September 10th, 2018, at around 10:05p.m. Merced Police Department, City of Merced Fire Department and CHP – Merced responded to the southbound highway 99 Childs Avenue off ramp for reports of a big rig accident.

Upon arrival Merced Police located the big rig that went over the left side guard-rail. Merced Police and a Merced County Sheriff’s Office officer arrived on scene first, both helped the driver get out to safety and waited for CHP to take over the investigation. The driver of the big rig did not require any medical attention.

Bystanders said the truck would have went down into the southbound highway 99 lanes if it wasn’t for a tree that stopped it from going into the highway lanes. The collision remains under investigation, at this time no alcohol or drugs are believed to be a factor in this collision. The southbound Childs Avenue exit remained closed for a few hours for guard-rail repair.
