According to the Merced Police Department, on June 12th, 2019, Officers responded to a report of a rape that had occurred at a residential address near 12th and “T” streets.

The female victim was able to take a photo of the suspect as he was leaving her residence.

Investigators were able to identify a possible suspect, Angelo Powers.

Detective Sam Sannadan obtained a warrant for a DNA sample on the suspect.

The DNA samples collected from the victim matched 33-year-old Angelo Powers DNA.

On July 22, 2019 Detective Sannadan was able to obtain an arrest warrant for Angelo Powers.

On July 23, 2019 Officer Elliot was patrolling his assigned area and located Powers in the 1300 Block of West 18th Street.

Powers was arrested for the warrant and will be booked pending a medical clearance.
