OFFICER PATROL VEHICLE CATCHES ON FIRE AFTER A SHORT PURSUIT

Madera,CA- Officers observed a vehicle which was reported stolen today in the area of Country Club Drive and Sherwood Way. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, which led to a short pursuit. The pursuit ended in the county when the stolen vehicle crashed into a canal. Moises Martinez, the driver of the stolen vehicle fled on foot.

The initial officer who was in pursuit of the stolen vehicle began to give chase until he observed his patrol vehicle on fire. Moises Martinez was captured a short distance away by additional officers. The patrol vehicle’s undercarriage became hot during the pursuit, which caused the dry grass under it to catch fire.

Thankfully no one was injured and no homes or structures were damaged during the fire other than the patrol vehicle. This is a good reminder to be careful where you park.
