Motorcyclist flown to hospital after crashing into a vehicle on Santa Fe near Atwater

A man suffered major injuries and was flown to an out-of-area hospital after his motorcycle collided with another vehicle Monday afternoon.

California Highway Patrol officers responded to the collision at around 5:12 in the area of Santa Fe Drive and Avenue Two, according to CHP Sergeant Shane McConnell.

The motorcyclist was driving Eastbound on the fast lane at an unknown speed approaching Avenue Two, a Ford Escape with three occupants was on the left turn lane waiting to turn South on Avenue Two and for unknown reasons failed to see the motorcyclist traveling Eastbound on Santa Fe Drive.

CHP says the motorcycle hit the rear passenger side quarter panel of the Escape causing it to spin around and ejecting the motorcyclist into the middle of traffic lanes.

CHP said they do have witnesses to this crash, the occupants of the Ford Escape were not injured.

The identity of the motorcycle driver was not released, at this time it’s unknown if alcohol was involved.
