Molotov Cocktail thrown at Merced Sheriff Deputy, this is what happened

According to the  Merced Sheriff’s Department, a deputy responded to a domestic violence call on January 16, 2020, at approximately 6:30 pm, in the 9700 block of Sixth street in Delhi.

Deputies arrived at the reported residence, and learned that 21-year-old Alexander Vasquez assaulted his girlfriend and locked himself and her inside a bedroom.

Family members called the Sheriff’s Office for help when they heard Vasquez yelling and throwing things inside the room.

Deputies tried speaking with Vasquez through the door and he refused to come out. Deputy Mandilyn Ross went outside in an attempt to see inside the bedroom window.

However, as the female deputy peeked through the window, she saw Vasquez had lit a gasoline-filled glass bottle with a towel stuffed inside, known as a Molotov cocktail, and threw it out the window toward Deputy Ross.

Deputy Ross was able to get out of the way and the bottle exploded on the ground near her feet.

At this time the deputies forced their way into the room and found Vasquez standing with another Molotov cocktail in one hand with a lighter in the other.

Deputies deployed a taser and took Vasquez into custody. Vasquez had a large hunting knife and a pellet gun in his pants. Vasquez was later booked into the Merced County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a destructive device, and domestic battery.
