Man killed near Livingston after head-on crash with big rig, the vehicle caught on fire, CHP says

A man was killed early Sunday morning after crashing head-on with a big rig near Livingston.

California Highway Patrol officers responded to the area of Olive Avenue and Cressey Way at around 12:44 for reports of a head-on crash with a vehicle on fire.

When officers arrived, they located a Peterbilt big rig and a Honda vehicle on fire.

During the investigation, it was determined a male adult was driving a Honda northbound on Olive Avenue, south of Cressey Way, at approximately 45 MPH.

According to CHP, the Honda crossed over the solid double yellow lines directly in the path of the big rig traveling southbound on Olive Avenue at approximately 45 MPH.

After the collision, the driver of the big rig attempted to remove the adult male driver from the Honda, but the vehicle quickly caught fire, CHP public information officer Zuniga told Merced GW News.

The driver of the Honda was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Peterbilt did not sustain injuries and remained at the scene, he was not under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at time of the collision.

The identification of the man is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
