Man caused a multi-vehicle crash in Los Banos several remain hospitalized

On March 10th, 2019, at approximately 3:44 a.m., Los Banos Police and Fire units were dispatched to a major injury traffic collision in the 1000 block of Pacheco Boulevard. When Police and Fire personnel arrived, they encountered a challenging scene with multiple major injuries and one fatality.

The scene took several hours to process and eastbound Pacheco Boulevard remained closed to traffic until 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning.

A white Nissan Pathfinder was traveling westbound on Pacheco Boulevard, making a left turn into the Chevron parking lot, near the intersection of 10th Street and Pacheco Boulevard. A white Dodge Charger traveling eastbound on Pacheco Boulevard in excess of 100 miles per hour broadsided the Pathfinder, causing the Pathfinder to separate into two pieces.

The driver of the Pathfinder was wearing his seatbelt, but was ejected from the vehicle and remains hospitalized. Two other occupants of the Pathfinder were transported to Modesto area hospitals with major injuries, and a third passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Dodge Charger fled the scene, leaving his passenger pinned in the vehicle. Officers arrived and found a passenger trapped in the vehicle. As the officers were trying to help the passenger, the vehicle caught on fire, but the flames were quickly extinguished with a fire extinguisher.

The passenger in the Dodge Charger was transported to a Modesto area hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Dodge Charger was identified as Ivan Andrade, 21-year-old of Los Banos. Detectives tracked Andrade to his home where he was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and hit and run involving injury or death.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this collision and additional charges are anticipated.

Till now, all of the parties injured in this collision remain hospitalized.

The collision remains under investigation as Detectives are reviewing video surveillance and completing interviews.
