Man arrested after collision in Atwater that left two people dead Friday night

An Atwater man was arrested after a collision in Atwater that left two people dead Friday Night.

California highway patrol officers responded to reports of a vehicle engulfed in flames after a collision on Santa Fe Drive near Spaceport Entry at around 9:45.

When officers arrived, they located a 2012 Honda fully engulfed with a 56-year-old female driver and a 56-year-old male passenger, according to Zuniga public information officer from the California Highway Patrol.

20-year-old King Vanga was driving a 2012 Lexus ES 350 when he rear-ended the Honda at a high rate of speed, CHP said.

CHP Officers determined that Mr Vanga was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time of the collision.

Vanga was arrested and booked in the Merced county jail and is being accused of felony DUI and Vehicular manslaughter.
