On February 12th, 2019, An officer-involved shooting took place at around 8:00 p.m. at the intersections of Sydney Lane and Lopes Avenue in South Merced.

The deceased, who died as a result of a single gunshot wound was an off-duty Dos Palos Police Officer who was on administrative leave according to the district attorneys office.

Due to the nature of the case, the Merced County District Attorney’s Office is conducting the investigation in place of either the Merced Police Department or the Merced County Sherriff’s Office.

The investigation is active and ongoing. There is much still to do according to District attorney Kimberly Helms Lewis. Supervising Investigator Curt Gorman is the lead investigator on this case.
