Dos Palos police have arrested a student for making statements about taking a gun to the school.

Authorities say, on Wednesday, December 8th, 2021, it was reported that a student at the Dos Palos High School made statements to other students about bringing a gun to school.

Further investigation determined that the student, whose name is being withheld due to his age, made statements to numerous students, including stating that he would shoot other students.

The student was taken into custody and booked into the Merced County Juvenile Detention Facility. No other details are being released at this time.

The police department is urging parents to speak to their children about making verbal statements or posts on social media about shootings at schools. These matters are taken very seriously and can lead to school discipline and/or criminal charges.
