A big rig driver was flown to a hospital after his truck went off the freeway in Merced.

California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene to investigate at around 1:48 Thursday afternoon.

According to CHP, the driver was traveling Northbound near East Childs Avenue when for unknown reasons left the roadway.

The crash is currently being investigated, public works are on scene clearing up the trees that the semi-truck was hauling. No other vehicles appeared to have been involved.
