Big rig carrying bananas, overturns on Highway 99 in Livingston

On May 2nd, 2019, at approximately 1:45 a.m. a big rig crash was reported on Northbound Highway 99 near Hammatt Avenue.

California Highway Patrol responded to the area, upon arrival, officers located a 2016 Kenworth big rig that was hauling 42,000 pounds of bananas according to Officer Zuniga from the Merced CHP area office.

The driver 51-year-old Luis Alberto Preciado out of San Ysidro for unknown reasons veered off the road, the driver then over-corrected the big rig, which overturned and blocked both lanes of the highway.

Traffic had to be diverted on the shoulder of the freeway, both lanes opened around 7:30 a.m., no other vehicles were involved in this collision.

No injuries were reported, no alcohol or drugs are believed to be a factor in this collision.
