Atwater resident arrested for leading officers on Motorcycle chase

On September 26th, 2018, at around 1:00P.M, Atwater Police Officer Michael Rivera observed a white Suzuki motorcycle driving erratically in the 200 block of East Bellevue Road. When the motorcycle plate was checked, he learned that the motorcycle was reported stolen out of Merced.

When Rivera attempted to stop the motorcycle in the 1500 block of First Street, the motorcycle operator fled at a high rate of speed. The operator of the motorcycle, later identified as Jake Ross, 27-year-old of Atwater, was taken into custody near the intersection of Hwy 140 and Buhach Road after leading officers on a chase where he endangered the safety of the citizens of Atwater.

Ross was booked at Merced County Jail for Felony Evasion. Ross was found also to be on active probation for a prior felony evasion of officers. The stolen motorcycle was towed and will be returned to the rightful owner.
