A woman was severely beaten and killed in Gilroy, suspect found in Merced, police say

A woman was beaten and killed inside a Gilroy residence and the suspect was later located in Merced.

On August 17, 2020, at approximately 6:00 am, Gilroy police officers responded to the 7700 block of Murray Avenue for a report of a female screaming for help.

When officers arrived, they found a
severely beaten adult female inside the residence.

The suspect had already fled the scene in the
victim’s vehicle. Officers immediately summoned medical aid and the victim was transported to a local trauma center where she later died as a result of her injuries.

The suspect was determined to be the victim’s boyfriend, 49-year-old lzaak Ruben Bermea.

Gilroy Police Detectives, with the help of regionalized task forces and several outside agencies, began an extensive search for Bermea.

On August 18th, 2020, at around 5:00 p.m., Bermea was located at a residence in Merced
and was subsequently arrested without incident.

The victim’s vehicle was also located and brought back to Gilroy.

Bermea was later booked into the Santa Clara Jail for homicide.
