Merced Police say a woman was struck by a vehicle and died at a local hospital.

Merced Police officers responded to the area of West Childs Avenue and N Street at around 2:09, Wednesday morning for a vehicle that struck a pedestrian.

When officers arrived, medical personnel were already on the scene and working on the victim.

Police say the driver remained on the scene, according to witnesses, the 65-year-old female was lying in the roadway before being hit.
