According to Merced County Deputy Sheriff Daryl Allen, the woman struck and killed by a BNSF train was identified as 30-year-old Jovita Velasco from Merced.

On February 14th, 2020, Merced Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to the area of Plainsburg Road and Santa Fe Avenue at approximately 8:00 p.m., for a report of a train vs pedestrian.

Upon further investigation, deputies said, the female was sitting on the railroad tracks when she was hit and killed by the train.

According to a deputy at the scene, the BNSF train conductor made several attempts to blow the horn but the female did not move out of the way.

The female was pronounced deceased at the scene.
