Vehicle overturns and hits power pole, passenger flown to a Modesto Hospital

An 18-year-old man was flown to a Modesto hospital and a 15-year-old was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Merced today.

California Highway Patrol officers responded to the area of East Gerard Avenue and South Arboleda Drive at approximately 4:35 p.m., for reports of a solo vehicle rollover collision.

CHP officers determined that a 15-year-old male Juvenile was driving eastbound on Gerard Avenue just West of Arboleda Avenue at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle.

According to CHP public information officer Zuniga, the vehicle rolled several times and collided with a PG&E pole.

The 18-year-old passenger Francisco Rodriguez Miranda from Planada sustained major injuries and was flown to Modesto Memorial Medical Center.

The 15-year-old male juvenile was arrested and taken to Mercy Medical Center in Merced for medical clearance and will be booked at the Merced Juvenile Center for felony DUI.

The roadway was closed for traffic due to electrical wires down, CHP said.
