Authorities are investigating a shooting that left one person dead and another injured on Thursday afternoon in Merced.

Officers responded to the area of “W” Drive and State Route West Highway 140 at around 4:52, for reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, two victims were located in the area of “W” Street and 10th Street, Merced Police Lieutenant Emily Foster told Merced Golden Wire News.

One victim was pronounced deceased at the scene, a second victim was transported to a Modesto hospital with a gunshot wound, Foster said.

A search warrant was served at a residence located at the corner of “W” drive and West Highway 140, no arrests have been made at this time, Foster said.

Police have not identified any of the victims at this time.

Merced crime scene personnel and detectives responded to the scene and will be investigating until the early morning hours, police ask to avoid the area.

Detectives spoke to multiple witnesses in the area and are looking for any video surveillance.

“Every death is a tragedy, it is someone’s brother, sister, mother, father or relative, we are going to do everything we can to investigate the crime and arrest the suspect/s involved in the shooting, our condolences go out to the family and friends of the victims”, Foster said.
