Two shootings in Merced in less than 1-hour sends teenager to Modesto Hospital

Merced Police Officers are investigating two incidents of shots fired in residential areas within the City of Merced.

The first report of gunshots fired occurred in the area of W. 18th and “I” Street at 3:11 p.m. Police responded to the area, checking the area for victims and/or suspects, but did not locate anyone involved in the shooting.

Officers did locate cartridge casings in the area that verified that a shooting did occur, although no one was located in connection with the shooting incident.

At 3:53 p.m., Merced Police Officers were dispatched to another shots fired call that had occurred in the residential area of Loughborough Drive and Meadows Avenue.

Police officers responded to the area of Loughborough Drive and Meadows Avenue where they located one gunshot victim.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his lower extremities and he received medical assistance from Riggs Paramedics at the crime scene. Subsequently, the victim was airlifted to a regional hospital in Stanislaus County.

Police officers did not locate any of the suspects involved in the shootings, but Merced Police Detectives are conducting interviews of witnesses and following up on leads to identify the suspects.

Detectives are investigating both shootings that occurred today to determine if the shootings are connected and to also determine the identity of suspects. It is too early in the investigations of the incidents to determine if the shootings are gang related.
