Woman struck by hit and run driver in Merced, CHP says

A woman was flown to a hospital with major injuries after being hit by a vehicle.

CHP officers responded to the East 16th Street off-ramp at Northbound 99 at around 5:45, Thursday morning, for an adult female lying in the roadway.

When officers arrived, they located the unidentified female lying in the roadway with major injuries and determined she had been involved in a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.

Authorities say the female pedestrian was walking in the roadway of the East 16th Street off-ramp from State Route 99 northbound, outside of a designated crosswalk when a vehicle struck her.

The woman was located by a passing motorist who immediately called 911.

The driver who struck the pedestrian continued northbound, fleeing the scene. The woman was flown to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
