Transient throws rock at Merced Police vehicle windshield, this is what happened

On September 3rd, 2019, at approximately 4:45 p.m., Merced Police officers were dispatched to the Homeless Shelter located at 317 East 15th Street for a disturbance call.

Responding officers were also advised the transient was possibly breaking windows of a van at the shelter.

An officer arrived in the area of East 15th and “G” streets and located the responsible.

The officer tried to make contact with the suspect and he leg-bailed.

The Officer continued to chase him along the railroad tracks with his police cruiser between 15th and 16th Streets.

The suspect then allegedly picked up a rock and threw it at the officer’s patrol vehicle windshield

29-year-old Ruben Lafayette was arrested for Resisting, delaying, obstructing public officer, assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism, and a felony assault charge, according to jail records.

The suspect continued to run towards 16th Street, a second police unit spotted him crossing 16th and “H” streets, he continued to run through an alley towards H&W Drive-In.

The suspect was immediately taken into custody at H&W Drive-In.
