Structure fire causes damages to Merced office Plaza

The Merced City Fire Department is investigating a fire that started at a commercial building at 1777 G street in Merced.

Firefighters responded to a report of a fire on May 7th, 2020, at approximately 4:30 a.m., according to Merced Fire Department.

Upon arrival at the scene, smoke was visible from the outside of the building, Battalion Chief Brunelli said.

Fire units initiated a fire attack and were able to knock the fire down quickly limiting the spread to only the facade above the area of origin, Brunelli said.

“We had several homeless people staying out here and causing damage to our building in the past”,  a property manager told Merced Gateway News.

Moderate roof damage was sustained due to firefighting operations, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
