Police arrest wheel bandits couple at Merced dealership

Merced Police arrested a couple from Newman stealing wheels from vehicles at the Merced Honda dealership.

Officer Elliott was checking the area of Auto Center Drive when he observed a suspicious vehicle at approximately 3:18 a.m. on May 25th, 2020.

Officer Elliot located 21-year-old Alexis Burton sitting in the passenger seat. While speaking with Burton Officer Elliot heard some noise from the Merced Honda lot.

Officer Richter arrived and also contacted 26-year-old Ricardo Molina exiting the lot. Officers checked the lot and found that Molina was in the process of jacking up one of the cars to remove the wheels. Both Burton and Molina were arrested for the attempted grand theft.

The Merced Police Department has investigated several wheel thefts over the past month. At this time it’s unknown if Burton and Molina are tied to the other thefts.
