Man arrested for starting fire at Los Primos Auto Sales Dealership

A man was arrested after admitting starting a fire at a vehicle parked at Los Primos Auto Sales.

Merced Police officers and Merced City Firefighters responded to 1450 West Main street for reports of a fire on May 30, 2020, at approximately 1:37 a.m.

Upon arrival, they located a vehicle fully engulfed in flames. The vehicle was parked close to the office and the building also began to burn. The fire was extinguished with damage to the building, the vehicle was a total loss.

According to the press release, Merced firefighters ruled the fire as an arson.

The owner of the business was able to respond and review video surveillance of the incident. A subject could be seen on the video starting the fire and leaving the area on foot. Officers at the scene recognized the suspect as 47-year-old Charles Moreschini.

Officers realized they had contacted him just a few blocks away near the time of the fire. Officers searched the area and located Moreschini walking in the 1200 block of West 16th Street.

Officers questioned Moreschini about the fire and admitted to starting the fire. Moreschini was arrested for Arson and booked into the Merced County Jail.
